Segment Measuring Machine

A simple measuring fixture, manually loaded and unloaded, to checked dimensionally stator segment lamination packs.

The fixture comprises of a nest based on a precision ground horizontal reference anvil onto which the datum edge of the stator is placed. A manually operated toggle clamp holds the datum edge down against the anvil.  Three LVDT`s are mounted in each of two measurement heads. The information from the six LVDT`s is fed into and processed by a Metronics Gauge Check unit, which will illuminate green or red for pass or fail.

This system probes each face at three points:
  • The perpendicularity requirement is checked by subtracting the lowest reading from the highest of the transducers touching datum face “A” and confirming that this is less than 0.15mm.
  • The parallelism is checked by subtracting the lowest reading from the highest for each pair of opposing transducers on the faces and confirming that all three readings are less than 0.15mm.
  • The thickness is checked by taking the average of the three readings and confirming that this is within +/- 0.43mm of the nominal length (this takes account of any out of perpendicularity and/or parallelism).
The fixture is capable of two variants.
